  1. Vocab review from Chapter 1
  2. Check "Animal Tales" notes with another student
      1. Did you give the same information?  Different?
      2. How do you decide what is important to note?
  3. WHAT TO NOTE:  Listen for Transitions, Thought Groups, Pausing, Change in Tone--Listen to Animal Tales Again and analyse for the above characteristic
  4. Discuss your answers to Section D and read your Journal writing HW to a partner-Focus on using and hearing Thought Groups
  5. Hand-In HW in Portfolios
  6. Conduct a Survey, Pages 87-88 (A-D)

HW: 
1.  Quest pages 98-99-Prepare for Listening
Practice USING these new words.
 
2.  Read the article on pages 8-10 about Octopuses  Science World Magazine.pdf
Try not to use a dictionary more than 50%.  Instead, try to understand new words from context only. 
3.  Complete the Octopus Reading Handout.doc.  I will collect this
4.  While you read, use the Cornell method to take notes  Cornell Notes.doc  I will collect this
5.  After reading and taking notes, write a one paragraph response to the following question:
Do you think that animals have feelings?  If no, why not?  If yes, WHY and what kinds of feelings do you think they have?  Be specific, For example:  love, hate, envy, desire, likes and dislikes, sadness, joy.
 
Try to use the information you wrote in your notes about Octopus Intelligence to support your ideas as you write.
For example, you might write
"The article says octopuses are intelligent.  Since we know they are smart, isn't it also possible that they have feelings? This means other animals could have feelings too.   In fact, I am certain that cats and dogs have feelings.  They have moods, just like humans.  Sometimes they want to play, other times they are not social.  This behavior shows likes and dislikes.  Having likes and dislikes is having feelings."
