Course Summary

 In this course you will expand your fluency in English and develop your reading, writing, listening, speaking, and critical thinking skills. Our goal is to prepare you for success in academic studies. We will refine your English skills while exploring different academic topics and subjects, and by completing a wide variety of assignments (individual, partnered, small group).

 

 The basic objectives of the course are:

i) to understand and be familiar with the writing process

ii) to learn how to write a topic sentence, a thesis, and support for a thesis while writing organized paragraphs and essays

iii) to integrate advanced mechanics of English grammar and basic writing techniques to write beginner college-level essays

iv) introduce students to different writing formats including: definition, comparison, argument, analysis, cause & effect, persuasive writing, and research writing

v) develop reading skills in order to easily identify main ideas and supporting arguments
